Genesis

While I am returning to this blog, I want to make it clear that I intend only to publish my random observations and comments, not poetry. Having said all of that, let me take the opportunity to say that during my sabbatical here, I have had the opportunity to read much good literature and take part in creating some myself. One such author would be Haruki Murakami. The style of this Japanese author is very much in the style of magical realism, full of mystery and intrigue. I have read 5 of his books to date and I recommend starting with The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle or Kafka On The Shore. Preferably the first one. Check out his writing at www.harukimurakami.com

To my faithful readers: I am writing this to let you know that I am taking somewhat of a sabbatical from this blog. That is to say, I won't be posting any more poetry on it as I am taking time to myself, working on new material and hoping to produce this into a book that you can actually read. Since I now live without Internet access at home, it allows me a certain isolation that I rather enjoy in the romantic, artistic sense. I have reached a point in my life where I feel a strong desire to simplify and I am taking steps to do so. Those of you who are my close friends know where to reach me. As for the rest, I bid you a fond farewell as I remove my poetry from public domain. It was a beautiful adventure that was such a learning experience.

A Current State of Affairs

Spinning, spinning ourselves out of control,
Mad whirling dirvishes, choking on the smoke
We gave ourselves. Wear a mask, take your pill-

It's a slippery slope, crisis of logic currently pressing
Its little finger on the human temple causing the hugest
Headache. Magical charade lying over desolation,
Deceit in no short supply.

America, America! God can't shed His grace no more on thee,
You see, or maybe not, killing yourselves. You can't damn the man
While hooked to the crude I.V. Sit in hot, boiling steaming,
People screaming for help from flooded-out buildings, but you
Can't hear shit from 30,000 feet.

Global Warming

Rolling Stone magazine is not often seen as being a source for good articles on current events and world happenings. I however, beg to differ and would like to offer up an example from the current month's edition: a very well written article by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the "Chief Prosecuting Attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper and President of Waterkeeper Alliance." It is my personal belief that everyone should know the truth about global warming and to also know that Al Gore is not the sole source of information on it. The Value of Friendship

After feeling a bit out of touch for some time, it feels good to be surrounded by good friends who enjoy the same things you enjoy, hold the same ideas about life and just live and enjoy their lives. Spur of the moment, random acts of whatever is the way in which we were designed to live this life. Good food, drink, plenty of laughter and conversation are the ingredients. Living simply for the first time a long time, while maintaining the "adult responsibility," but just living...I love the sun coming in through the bedroom window, I love sitting on the deck at night and listening to the silence of everything while drinking hot tea. A wise person told me: "Never underestimate the power of doing absolutely nothing."

The future

What I have come to realize as the Presidential elections are ever-approaching and threatening to consume us, is that we, as everyday Americans need to demand a new type of candidate. We need a new type of President to truly lead this country into the 21st century. We need a leader that will absolutely advocate for peace, both domestic and abroad. A leader that will advocate for human rights, both domestic and abroad. A leader that will employ his/her government to protect our Earth, to preserve our environment. The President should ensure that other countries are upholding this. Our President should re-sign the U.S. onto the Kyoto Protocol to limit carbon emissions. Our President should absolutely employ his/her government to provide ALL its citizens with health care. They should help our immigrants become legitimate, recognized members of American society. Critics will call this utopian, outrageous and the product of an outrageously huge government. I call it a necessity, an expected from the government of the most powerful nation on the planet. Our next President should shy themselves away from big business and remember the individual citizens that elected them. This is simply my view of what I want my America to look like.
